Greetings Gay Games Supporters,

We are making this emergency request in order to raise $20,000 USD by April 15 to bring the final six individuals in our scholarship program to the Gay Games in Cologne in July.

These applicants include:
  • a male field hockey player from Pakistan (our only participant from that country)
  • three women football/soccer players from Jamaica, Mexico, and South Africa, and
  • a male and a female cultural participant from Indonesia and Brazil, respectively.

We have already funded 34 scholarship applicants from the $50,000 received from our previous fundraising efforts and our scholarship endowment. With this final sum, we can ensure that all of the top-ranked applicants are able to be with us in Cologne for the opening ceremony and Games.

You have been among the tens of thousands of LGBT athletes and artists who have experienced “Participation, Inclusion and Personal Best™” in the previous seven Gay Games. The Gay Games have provided a life changing experience for many LGBT athletes and artists from around the world as they participate in a fun, safe and supportive environment.

For many of the individuals in our scholarship program who come from countries where homosexuality remains hidden or illegal, the Gay Games are a lifeline and provide an unparalleled experience of freedom. We all remember the pride on the faces of the athletes and the cheers of the crowd when these brave individuals marched in the opening ceremony under their country’s flags.

The spirit of inclusiveness is key value to the Gay Games and that is why we are making this appeal today—to assure that we include low-income participants from developing countries and from traditionally underrepresented populations.

Your donation of:

  • $ 2,000 will provide transportation, housing, meal allowance and registration for one participant
  • $800 will provide registration, housing, and a daily meal allowance for one participant
  • $400 will provide housing and daily meal allowance for one participant during the games
  • $200 will provide housing or daily meal allowance for one applicant during the games
  • $25 will provide housing or one day’s meals for one applicant during the games

We know that the economy is tough for everyone, but the Federation of Gay Games needs your help so that these athletes and artists can participate in the Cologne Gay Games and achieve their personal best.

The timing of your donation is crucial to our success; in some countries it can take up to two months to obtain a German visa, which most scholarship recipients will need to travel to Cologne.

We need to raise $20,000 USD by 15 April. All gifts made to the FGG Scholarship fund are tax-deducible to the full-extent allowable by law.

Won’t you please take a moment to make a generous, tax-deductible donation to the Gay Games Scholarship Fund?

On behalf of all of the scholarship athletes and artists, we thank you.

Paul Oostenbrug, Laura Moore, and Derek Liecty

PS.  If you give $50 or more, you will be invited to the opening reception for the scholarship athletes on 31 July in Cologne

PPS. Please contact scholarship@gaygames.org if you are able to donate frequent flier tickets. These are also very much needed if cash donations are not possible.
