Melissa
Etheridge joins the
Gay Games Ambassadors
Internationally acclaimed rock-star Melissa Etheridge signed on last in
late August as the newest Gay Games Ambassador, joining a growing list of
athletes, artists, activists, and celebrities supporting the movement in
advance of Gay Games VII, scheduled for 15-22 July 2006 in Chicago.
The Federation of Gay Games made the announcement jointly with Chicago
Games, Inc., the host of Gay Games VII. “Melissa Etheridge is a cultural
icon and highly regarded proponent of human rights,” said FGG
co-president Roberto Mantaci, from his home in Paris. “We are deeply
honoured to have Ms. Etheridge serve as an ambassador of the Gay Games
movement. For 25 years the Gay Games has promoted fairness, inclusion and
equality through sports, culture, and community. Melissa Etheridge’s
commitment to human rights is unparalleled. We look forward to working
with her in making progress toward a better world for all.”
Melissa
Etheridge joins a list of Gay Games Ambassadors supporting the Gay Games
movement in Chicago and beyond including baseball star Billy Bean, actor
and director Amanda Bearse, photographer Tom Bianchi, Olympic gold medal
swimmer Bruce Hayes, all-time Tennis great Billie Jean King, former
USA Ambassador to Luxembourg James Hormel, and actress Judith Light.

Heel
Goed - AMSTERDAM KICKS!
The
Amsterdam-based women's football team, AMSTERDAM KICKS, looks forward to
participating in Gay Games VII to be held in Chicago (15 to 22 July 2006).
Team members also played at previous Gay Games in Amsterdam and Sydney. In
the spirit of Tom Waddell and the Gay Games motto "Participation,
Inclusion and Personal Best," the team is comprised of both gay and
straight players of all ages. At Gay Games VI in Sydney, the average age
of team members was 37.5 years. Amsterdam Kicks, also known as Geuzen
Middenmeer, has a roster of more than 25 players comprising two teams that
play regularly in a local Dutch football league. In Sydney, the team
finished fifth out of thirteen. “Heel Goed!”

Boogie
Woogie in San Diego!
Athletes
and artists in San Diego are holding a fundraiser for the FGG Athletic
Scholarship fund on Saturday, 11 September, at the Museum for the Living
Artist Art Institute in Balboa Park. Proceeds will benefit financially
challenged athletes who want to attend the Gay Games and local artists.
San Diego's deputy Mayor Toni Atkins, an out lesbian, is one of the guest
speakers. Sue Palmer and Kenny Ard, two locally renowned boogie woogie
musicians will be playing and providing dance music. There will be a
silent auction and a drawing for 50 000 American Airlines frequent flyer
miles. The miles equates to two return tickets anywhere AA flies in the
USA. Wine, beer, soft drinks and hors d'ouvres will be served. It promises
to be a fun evening for a very worthy cause. For details, go to:
